Daimler
Daimler has brought to market many technologies and systems which are proven to enhance traffic safety and have also been taken over by other manufacturers. Examples include ABS (1978), ESP® (1995), BAS (1996), followed in 2000 by the first Lane Keeping Assist system for trucks and 2001 by ESP® Telligent stability control for trucks. PRE-SAFE® which activates protective measures as a precaution, was launched in 2002. PRE-SAFE® Brake, which can brake the vehicle autonomously when danger is detected, is available since 2006 for passenger cars; the first Active Brake Assist system for trucks was launched in 2006, too. The new drowsiness detection system ATTENTION ASSIST is a standard feature on the 2009 E-Class and S-Class. Daimler continues its drive towards safety innovations as can be seen in the 2009 Mercedes-Benz ESF Safety Research Showcar, including features such as inflatable PRE-SAFE® metal structures or braking bags for collision mitigation. >> Back to eSafety Awards 2009 |
