Project: Congestion Free Hessen 2015

Advanced Safety on Roads by Intelligent Cars and Infrastructure – this is a declared objective of the Hessian State government. In the context of the initiative “Congestion Free Hessen 2015”, the Hessian State Office for Road and Traffic Affairs develops innovative information and communication systems which help to avoid accidents and increase safety. Dynamic control units such as digital warning signs and electronic speed limits are already successfully employed in Hessen: By such instruments, the accident rate has been reduced significantly and the time lost in congestions has also been reduced by up to 80 per cent since 2004. Overall, measures of the initiative “Congestion Free Hessen 2015” have in short time brought up efficiency and increased safety on Hessian roads. In the coming years Hessen will, in co-operation with research institutions and commercial partners, continue to engage in the development of highly modern communication and security systems and the implementation of co-operative systems. The Rhine-Main region, due to its most advantageous position and infrastructure, currently serves as an exclusive testing area for national and European projects with respect to innovative C2X communication technology and intelligent vehicle safety systems.
