Slovenia
Vision
Vision 0 demands zero casualties or severe injuries due to traffic accidents. This vision expects that our society is capable of forming a traffic system without deadly accidents. Vision 0 is morally the only possible long-term objective for all preventive organisations and for every humane society. It requires limitation of speed to a safe level and complete soberness behind the wheel. A much greater responsibility falls on the owners and authorities to repair dangerous roads and prevent their formation.
Traffic safety
Road construction and technical improvements to vehicles in the last few years have been important factors behind a gradual improvement in road safety. Nevertheless, traffic safety in Slovenia compared with other countries is poor.
Each year some 38,000 traffic accidents occur on the roads, of which 41% are on national roads (motorways, trunk and regional roads). However, an analysis reveals that the proportion of fatalities and injuries which occur on national roads is much higher, accounting for 70% of fatalities. A breakdown into road type shows that around 8% of fatalities result from motorway accidents, over 40% on major (trunk) roads, 20% on regional roads, approximately 10% on local roads, 11% on urban roads and the remaining 7% on unclassified roads.
