This project dealt with the protection of car occupants in the event of a side impact crash and contributed to:

• Overall safety improvement of new cars through development of safety-associated vehicle features and technologies
• The improvement of the quality of life as the project was expected to contribute to reducing the number of injured and death road users with a factor of 2.
• The preservation of employment in the EU automotive industry.
• Improved performance: for new and advanced vehicles improvements are sought of 30% to 50% in safety, reliability, maintainability, availability and operability.
• Improved system competitiveness
