WHIPLASH II As a result of the 4th Framework WHIPLASH project, a test and design method has become available for low severity neck injuries. However, this method considers the loading phase of a rear-end collision only. Therefore the technical and scientific objective of this project was to develop evaluation and design methods to minimise the incidence and risk of neck injuries in frontal and oblique impacts as well as in the rebound phase of a rear-end collision, and to integrate this with the recently developed methods for the loading phase of rear-impact collisions. The aim was to reduce the risk and societal costs of low-severity neck injuries in car collisions by at least 40% by means of the introduction of safer vehicle designs.
