ADAC rewarded for its outstanding efforts in deploying eCall

Creation date: 20 March 2009

The Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC) has received the 2009 EENA 112 Award for its outstanding contributions to accelerating the implementation of the pan-European emergency call system eCall. The award was presented by Mrs. Dushana Zdravkova, Member of the European Parliament, to Mr.Werner von Scheven, ADAC Vice President Technical Affairs.

ADAC, the Europe’s largest automobile club, is well-known for its efforts to promote the benefits of eCall in a number of publications and support the Commission’s objective to ensure progress on the implementation of eCall across Europe as well as an effective and harmonised deployment of the service.

One of ADAC’s most remarkable achievements has been its cross-border feasibility trial conducted in 2007 in cooperation with Opel, Continental, T-Mobile, Airbiquity and its partner clubs in Austria (ÖAMTC) and Italy (ACI). The results of this test concluded that the automatic emergency call system eCall worked successfully in Germany, Italy and Austria.
