Transport Research Arena in Gothenburg 12-15 June 2006

Creation date: 19 June 2006

The Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2006 Conference took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, 12-15 June 2006 on the theme “Cleaner, safer and smarter road transport for Europe”.

TRA 2006 focused on the implementation of the European Research Area in support of a sustainable, more efficient and safer road transport system in Europe. The event was organised jointly by the European Commission, the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC), and the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR).

The conference was complemented by a major exhibition showcasing how recent and future road research and technological development in Europe is supporting the conference theme. eSafety Support had a stand at the exhibition, informing about the benefits of intelligent vehicle safety systems.

A Strategic Research Agenda
The objective of the conference was to promote the strategic alignment of road transport research, bringing together all European road research stakeholders around a shared ‘Strategic Research Agenda’. Among other things, this means combining and coordinating European, national, regional and private research actions, improving networking and pooling research and development capacities.

Participants included industry and research managers, senior researchers, engineers and scientists, as well as representatives of public authorities from across Europe and around the world.
